BASEBALL
The past few months Owen has been playing baseball with the YMCA "Blue Sharks." He's had a lot of fun, but I should have signed him up for little league where there is a little more playing and less "basics." He can hit pretty good, although there was some confusion at the beginning of the season as to wether he hit right or left handed. (We were at a game and he was hitting left handed. I yelled to have him switch and his coach said that Owen had told her he was left handed).
He made sure to talk to anyone that was near by when he was on any base...
....or in the outfield.
He went for EVERY ball, no matter where he was in the outfield.

This last Tuesday was his last game, which got rained out, so we headed to Roundtable for the team party. Owen's coach went beyond the basics and provided each boy with a baseball goody bag and certificates as well as their trophies. Owen was so pleased and had a great time!
Friday was Owen's Kindergarten Celebration where the kindergarten classes sing about 6 songs and then watch a slide show full of pictures of them throughout the year.
Owen has struggled at times with the rules and regulations of a classroom and school setting, but when he puts his mind to it, he does really well. A few weeks ago, I got a call from the school saying Owen was sent to the office for not listening to his teacher (this was after multiple refocuses). We made up this "Green Card Chart" for the rest of the year, where basically he is working toward earning rewards if he gets a "green card" every day for a certain number of days. (Meaning he doesn't have to pull his card to yellow or red). We started on the 11th after getting a Yellow on the 10th. If he got a green card every day for the next two weeks he could get a firesuit that he wanted. Well, he's done so great. Every day after school, he comes in, gets his pencil and marks off his chart. He's also earned 2 orange cards for good behavior. I guess he's just the type that really needs the structure and reinforcement. I'm proud of the accomplishments and growth he's had this year. I'm really going to miss my little buddy when he's gone all day next year!

About a month ago, Owen was over at a friend's house and when they dropped him off they told us that he rode their son's bike just fine....without training wheels. Owen hadn't really ridden much yet this spring, so after that day, he started riding a lot more. We convinced him to take off one of his training wheels and then a few hours later, the other came off. Since then, he's even upgraded to Jonas' old bike, which is bigger and is loving it. He is definitely growing up!
